Custom or off-the-shelf

When custom software pays off, and when it does not.

Off-the-shelf software is quick to set up and often the right call. Custom software development pays off where your process is your edge, or where no product fits it.

What we build

Custom software development, from customer portals to integrations.

  • Web applications and SaaS

Products your customers and staff use in the browser, multi-tenant where you need it.

    Web app development
  • iOS and Android apps

When the work belongs on a phone, for customers or for people in the field.

    Mobile app development
  • Internal tools and admin panels

The tools that live in spreadsheets and email today, as a real application with roles and an audit trail.

  • APIs and integrations

ERP, CRM and accounting working from the same data, tested and monitored.

    Systems integration

How a build runs

From bottleneck to running software, in four steps.

  1. Day 1

    You name the bottleneck

A short description is enough. We reply within one business day and set up a 30 minute call.

  2. 48 hours

    Scope and estimate

Within 48 hours of the call you get a written scope and a budget frame.

  3. 6 to 8 weeks

Build, with a demo every week

The first version takes 6 to 8 weeks. Every week you see the software running and help decide what comes next.

  4. Handover

Code, docs and access move to you

Everything lives in your accounts. Rights transfer on payment, and your team or ours keeps building.

When a custom build is the right call

A good fit if

  • A bought product would bend the process out of shape.
  • You want one partner for the build, and a product your own team can run afterwards.

Not a fit if

  • You need a decision before anyone writes code. That is software consulting, not this page.
  • You want named people on a timesheet and no defined result.
Who owns the software?

You do. Code, documentation and access move to you, and the rights transfer on payment.

How is this different from software consulting?

Consulting is the decision before anyone writes code: build, buy, or stop. This page is the build itself.

How do I get a number?

The project cost calculator gives a range in a few minutes. After a 30 minute call you get a written estimate within 48 hours.

How long does custom software development take?

A first version usually takes 6 to 8 weeks as an MVP Sprint, with a fixed scope and a demo every week. Larger products are built in phases after that, each with its own written scope.

When is custom software better than off-the-shelf software?

When your process is what sets you apart, when no product covers it without bending it, or when licence costs per user keep growing. If a standard product covers most of the need, we say so and you save the budget.

Which technologies do you use?

Mostly React or Next.js with TypeScript on the front end, Node.js or Python on the back end, PostgreSQL for data, Flutter or React Native for apps, and AWS, Azure or Google Cloud for hosting. If your team already runs another stack, we build on that.

Can you take over software someone else built?

Yes. We start by reading the code and documenting what runs, then agree in writing what we change first. For older systems that need to keep running while they change, see software modernization.

Tell us what the standard product cannot do.

Two or three sentences are enough. A person from our team replies within one business day, usually with first questions and a rough range.
